My Sob Story

And so here I am, after what seems like forever, but it's only been 1 week...I have to share my sob story with you all. May this story be an eye opener for us all.

Last Wednesday, our house was burglarized. It happened within about an hour's time span. They must've been watching us leave and waited until dark to break in. What scares me too is that they were so bold. Who robs people in the early evening, when most people are just arriving home from work? We were fortunate though that they didn't have the chance to steal too many things and no one was injured. From the looks of it, they were thwarted by my other half returning home earlier than they expected. They had taken out our suitcases and it looked like they were going to fill it, but they didn't get a chance to. They did, however, manage to make a mess in my walkin closet and the master bathroom and they stole my laptop...yep, the one that I use to post all of my projects and visit everyone's blogs and an even more unfortunate thing with that, we lost our pictures, and our wedding invitation list. : ( Luckily, no financial information was on there... so after all is said and done... I guess I should be happy, since it really could've been much, much worse.

We have since installed some motion detector alarms so those bad people will at least get a good scare if they return, plus my neighbors are all well aware now and once that alarms sounds, the authorities will surely be on their way. I'm still very upset by the whole thing and I'm finding it hard to feel comfortable in my home. It's a very unsettling feeling. The thought of an unwelcome stranger violating my personal space. Aaaah!

Anyway, please take care and be aware of your surroundings. Also, take some time to back up to disc or other hardware files/pictures on your computer that you'd hate to lose. It also might be a good idea to know exactly what you have on your computer and secure any personal information on your computer and in your home. With the economy not being in good shape, we're hearing about much more incidents like these.

My posts will be very few and far between until we replace the computer and I wont be able visit all of your blogs too frequently : ( That makes me sad as I do so enjoy seeing all of your projects and love reading your stories. I think my blog counter hit 1000 too, so I wanted to giveaway some blog candy this month, but it will have to wait until March.

Be safe everyone!

I am so sorry to hear about your unfortunate experience. I'm so glad that everyone is safe though, it could have been much worse had he surprised them and they hurt him. Jenny's idea about the thumb drive is an excellent one. I too keep all my blog and website information on a thumb drive and all my pictures and important stuff on an external hard drive (you can get lots of storage space for not a lot of money). This keeps you safe if they take your computer. Hang in there and know that we are all thinking about you! ~chris

So sorry to hear this. It happen to me in the day while I was home, they even opened my back door & stole a backpack from my washroom. My daughter was right in room about 6 feet away!! She didn't hear anything, they stole from my car,my camera was in there, and they stole our golf bags & some other things right from the garage in broad daylight!! I keep my garage door down now, and I also have motion sensors. I know the feeling. Hope you have a better week. Take care.

I'm so sorry to hear about this. Thank you for sharing your story as this is a wake up call for all of us. Sometimes living in Hawaii makes us feel like we're safer than living on the mainland, until something terrible like this happens. Thank God that neither of you were physically hurt. Take care and God Bless.

sorry to hear about your mishaps. I am glad that no one got hurt or anything, but I know that it's a total violation of your personal space and it sucks to be feeling not safe in your own home. I hope that some how you can get your laptop back w/ the pictures and mementos. let me know if there is anything I can do. take care.

Nicky, I'm so sorry that this happened to you. Our apartment was burglarized (years ago when we were living as newlyweds in Hawaii, in what was then called Makakilo) and it really made me feel violated. They stole lots of stuff, but knowing that they had pawed through all my lingerie, etc, and stolen my husband's wedding ring...that was devastating. I'm just glad your husband is ok...the pictures will be what you miss the most.

Take care! Will be thinking of you. (the word verification is *blesses*...I love little so-called coincidences like that!)

Thanks for sharing your story, Nicky. It's so unnerving what people will do these days - like we even have to lock the doors when we're in the house. Glad that both of you are safe.

Nicky, so sorry to hear that! I have been stressing lately because I don't have a sound back up plan for my laptop and all my pictures, etc. This motivates me to get something more sound and reliable in place. I'm sorry for your misfortune, but glad it wasn't worse. Take care.
